Cost of Living

Planning & Budgeting
The amount of money needed to cover basic expenses like housing, food, taxes, and healthcare in a particular area.

Example

Example: You earn $80,000 in Houston (cost of living index: 92). A job offer in San Francisco pays $110,000 (index: 170). Adjusted for cost of living, your Houston salary is equivalent to $86,957 nationally. The SF salary is equivalent to $64,706 nationally. Despite the $30,000 raise, you would have less purchasing power in SF. Use our cost-of-living calculator.
